My husband and I bought the house I essentially grew up in 5 years ago. We bought it from my parents, and as they were anxious to move without moving much, we inherited paintings, dishes, curtains, the works. I have had a difficult time changing the decorating scheme to fit my own style because of all the memories these things invoke. The carpeting was beautiful until we moved in with a blended family of 7 children, along with an African Gray parrot, 4 dogs, and a billion cats. I have been wanting to rip out the carpeting and replace it with hard wood floors ever since. No can do. The moolah is too mucho. What to do?
Messing around on Facebook one day, I saw a link to Country Living's page. The featured picture and article was on a family who spent no more than $31 a room redoing their home. $31!!!!!! I went nuts, needless to say. One part caught my eye. They ripped out their carpeting and old tile flooring but obviously didn't have money to replace it with the hardwood. Instead, they used their noggins and painted the subfloor. DO WHAT???? You mean to tell me you can DO that??? HELLO!!! Ding ding ding!!
My logical, frugal hubby is in a slight panic. Just a slight one though. I am quite sure he is hoping this is one of my brilliant ideas I'll never actually start but talk about nonstop. I am so tired of vacuuming and cleaning carpets, though, that I am pretty sure one day he will come home to see carpet ripped up and his industrious if slightly nuts wife painting the floor. In the meantime, check out the beauty Ashley created when she got the urge to create and do it herself!
